Revising and Republishing

My company, Marshall Cavendish Education, has offices around the world and in several different locations in Asia. The headquarters are located in Singapore, and it is my understanding that they were the center of ELT publishing until our department was formed here in Hong Kong to share some of the work.

Somewhere in that process, my boss acquired the publishing rights to some 20+ titles already published in Singapore. They were printed several years ago, and she plans for us to revise, reformat and republish them for Hong Kong or international markets.

Included in those titles is a series of six grammar books for primary school students called New Essential Grammar. Before Christmas, I started reworking the first book, which is now called My Grammar Guide Level 1, and the final printed copy arrived on my desk this afternoon!

The book is divided into different chapters based on parts of speech, and each contains grammar notes as well as exercises. During the revision process, I rewrote the majority of the grammar notes for this book because the previous ones were too lengthy and complicated for 6 year olds whose first language is not English.

Additionally, I revised the grammar exercises in the book to make them simpler and more age-appropriate. I even wrote the information on the back cover of the book about the entire series, too.

Now, I have finished revising the Level 2 book of My Grammar Guide, and we are just waiting for the printing factory to produce it. The last four books will be a project I continue to work on for the rest of the spring.
