Spring 2024 publications

This spring saw another two English books published under my editorship at City University of Hong Kong Press. Of course, these were not the only projects I've worked on over the past few months, but the others will be published later in the year.

Introduction to Propriety Economics book cover on a patterned background

In March, we published Introduction to Propriety Economics, a scholarly book that is a mix of economic history and theory, as well as Chinese and Western philosophy. At times it was a tricky project to edit, in part because the majority of the manuscript was translated from Chinese into English. But it was also quite unique and rather different from anything I've read related to economics before (though admittedly that's not a lot).

Then in May, The Alcock Album: Scenes of China Consular Life 1843–1853 came out. This is the first full-color book I've worked on at CityU, and all the sketches and watercolors in it really do look nice. I certainly hope the author is pleased, as I spent quite a lot of (over)time and effort to get it ready in time for the upcoming launch in London in June.

For both of these projects, besides the standard editorial work (copy editing, project management, proofreading, etc.), I also helped with the usual marketing components as well. These include social media posts, book order forms/posters, catalogue blurbs, etc.
