Startup 101

 

My first book published after coming back from maternity leave is called Startup 101. It's designed as a handbook for aspiring entrepreneurs, including a Q&A section and feature interviews with prominent people involved in Hong Kong's startup ecosystem, such as bankers, venture capitalists, etc. 

However, this project was one assigned to me, rather than one I chose from author submissions. It is actually a translation of a book published in Chinese last summer, one of three in the CityUHK TechVenture Series which was recently recognized at the Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Awards 2025.

This is not the first translated project I've worked on (that was Introduction to Propriety Economics), but it was perhaps even more difficult. In addition to needing to check every single proper noun and term for accuracy, I also had to liaise with the interviewees to get their comments and approval, which took a significant amount of time.

So, although the book is noteworthy for it's more modern design in full color, I can't say I hope to work on similar projects again. I much prefer books originally written in English by one or a few authors, which are simpler both to edit and to manage.
