Personal Data (Privacy) Law in Hong Kong
Courtesy of City University of Hong Kong Press While I was on maternity leave, another project that I worked on earlier in 2024 was published. This book, the third edition of Personal Data (Privacy) Law in Hong Kong: A Practical Guide on Compliance , was a collaboration between our team at CityUHK Press and the office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data in Hong Kong. Many people might think working on a law book would be pretty boring. However, I actually found a lot of the content quite interesting, as it features plenty of real-life cases and examples of different aspects of the law (including the fairly recent changes in the wake of the 2019 protests). For me, the most frustrating part of this project was related to the language. Because the book covers a special area of the law, and a lot of the wording is meant to reflect the relevant ordinances or case documents, it couldn't always be changed into more grammatical or more readable English.
